Laboratory Results in Ouest Data Hub – Standardization and Data Quality Overview

Clinical Data Warehouses (CDWs) store large volumes of laboratory data that require interoperability across organizations. While LOINC standardizes identifiers for laboratory results, inconsistencies within hospitals can still occur. This study analyzed data from six hospitals in western France (Rennes, Nantes, Brest, Tours, Angers, and ICO), revealing significant heterogeneity: 910 distinct LOINC codes were found, with only 51 shared across all centers. Focusing on creatinine measurements for renal function monitoring, phenotypic differences were observed. ICO patients displayed distinct patterns due to their specific health conditions, while the largest centers (Tours, Rennes, and Nantes) showed consistent creatinine values. Smaller centers, Brest and Angers, exhibited similar patient profiles. This study underscores that, despite LOINC standardization, quality control and value standardization are crucial to ensure reliable and applicable clinical decision models across multiple centers.
