Evaluating the Early Impact of the Cerner Millennium EPR System: A Realist Evaluation Approach
This paper presents a realist evaluation protocol for examining the early impacts of the Cerner Millennium Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system in an English hospital. Initial programme theories suggest potential improvements in workflow efficiency, data accuracy, decision-making and user acceptance. Using a mixed-methods approach, primary data collection will begin following system implementation. These theories will be revisited and refined as new findings are obtained. This research will contribute to understanding EPR implementation in NHS settings.
