Object Realisation with Activity Predicates in Bulgarian

The article deals with the syntactic realisation of three semantic classes of activity predicates in Bulgarian: consumption verbs, surface contact verbs, and creation verbs. The analysis focuses on the realisation of the theme argument – particularly in terms of its definiteness, quantification and role in marking the telicity of the predicate (i.e. whether it is an incremental or a non-incremental theme). Special attention is given to the relationship between incrementality, lexical aspect, telicity, and morphological aspect.

Abstract

The analysis focuses on the realisation of the theme argument – particularly in terms of its definiteness, quantification and role in marking the telicity of the predicate (i.e. whether it is an incremental or a non-incremental theme). Special attention is given to the relationship between incrementality, lexical aspect, telicity, and morphological aspect.
