Lora Taseva, Dobriela Kotova, Ivan P. Petrov, Ekaterina Dikova, Petra Stankovska, Georgi Mitov. Constantine of Preslav’s Uchitel’noe Evangelie (‘Didactic Gospel’). Volume 1: Old Bulgarian–Greek Dictionary. Volume 2: Greek–Old Bulgarian Dictionary

This review presents the long-awaited two-volume work, which includes Old Bulgarian–Greek and Greek–Old Bulgarian word indexes, compiled from the Uchitel’noe evangelie (Didactic Gospel) of Constantine of Preslav and its Greek sources. The bilingual indexes offer invaluable data and insights into Greek–Bulgarian language contact during the formative period of the Bulgarian language, the establishment of Slavic Christian terminology, translation techniques, and the idiolect of one of the most prominent writers of the First Bulgarian Kingdom. In addition to the word indexes, the supplementary corrections, indexes, reverse dictionaries, and other materials not only deepen our understanding of the linguistic and textual history of the Uchitel’noe evangelie, but also lay a solid foundation for further research and discoveries. Undoubtedly, this comprehensive and multifaceted work will be highly valued and extensively used by specialists in the history of the Bulgarian language and related academic fields.
