Syntactic Realisation and Aspectual Characteristics of the Cognitive Predicate мисля (think)

The paper examines the syntactic realisation of мисля (think) as one of the core cognitive verbs. Drawing on data from the Bulgarian National Corpus, it presents the possible complements of the predicate, including complement clauses, nominal phrases and pre-positional phrases. We conclude that the verb under consideration may belong to the aspectual class of states or activities, and that the different syntactic realisations of its semantic variants demonstrate this.

Abstract

The paper examines the syntactic realisation of мисля (think) as one of the core cognitive verbs. Drawing on data from the Bulgarian National Corpus, it presents the possible complements of the predicate, including complement clauses, nominal phrases and pre-positional phrases. We conclude that the verb under consideration may belong to the aspectual class of states or activities, and that the different syntactic realisations of its semantic variants demonstrate this.
