Development of business standardization and the new ISO 9001:2026 model

Business standardization has been a global international project for several decades. It all started in 1987, when the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) issued the first standard for the ISO 9001 model, for the Quality System (QS). At that time, three certification models were defined for QS (ISO 9001 (for the entire company), ISO 9002 (for production and assembly), and ISO 9003 (for final control)). Since then, until today, this model (ISO 9001) has had two minor revisions (in 1994 and 2008) and two major revisions (in 2000 and 2015). Since 2000, only one certification model for ISO 9001 (QMS - Quality Management System) has been introduced, but in 2015 it was established on a new basis, so that since that year, we are talking about a new era of business standardization. Preparation for a small revision is underway, and the new model will be released in 2026. This paper provides an analysis of the state of development of business standardization in the context of the development of the ISO 9001 model, analyzing the state of its development in the world and in our country. Also, the paper provides directions for the development of the new ISO 9001 model, which will be covered by the next major revision around 2035.
