Simple and green one-pot synthesis of carboxylate-oxime-based hydrogel for the uptake of trace metals from seawater

In this study, we developed a simple and green one-pot method for the synthesis of carboxylate-oxime-based hydrogels. This one-pot synthesis process simultaneously converts nitrile into glutardiamidoxime, glutarimidedioxime, and carboxylate. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance revealed the difference between carboxylate-oxime-based hydrogels synthesized using the proposed method and a two-step process. The oxime in the one-pot-synthesized carboxylate-oxime-based hydrogel includes glutardiamidoxime and glutarimidedioxime, and that of the two-step-processed hydrogel is glutardiamidoxime. The BET data shows the CO-PAN in seawater is a high surface area materials. The hydrogel synthesized using the proposed method was investigated for metal uptake from seawater, and 12 trace metals (Al, Ca, Fe, Mn, Na, Ba, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Ti, and V) were successfully extracted from an inshore area, a lagoon, and deep seawater. One-pot synthesis without organic solvent. Uptake the trace metals from seawater.
