Gait Parameters to Detect Parkinson's Disease Using a Radar Network: Preliminary Analysis

The early detection of Parkinson's disease (PD) is critical to increase the quality of life of the patients. Radar technology is a strong candidate to anticipate its detection by monitoring gait. However, no study has pointed out which gait parameters are the most relevant to detect PD using radars. In this paper, the gait of two healthy individuals and three patients with PD is compared using a radar network to determine which gait parameters are more determinant to detect PD. This effect is quantified for three different gait paces. The results show that the mean and maximum stride times when the subjects walk at their regular pace are the most determinant to detect PD. This contribution is relevant for radar network implementations to detect PD, as it addresses which parameters should be analyzed during clinical assessments.
