The Impact of Carbon Tax on the Growth of Renewable Technologies in Iran's Energy Supply System
Creating a low-carbon energy system to combat global climate change and accelerate the energy transition is crucial. This study, focusing on Iran, developed a large-scale energy supply model using the open-source OSeMOSYS model with a particular emphasis on the electricity supply system to implement a carbon tax policy and assess its environmental benefits and economic costs. The results show that a $60/tC02 carbon tax can increase the share of renewable technologies by 32.24% in 2055 compared to the business-as-usual scenario. Additionally, in terms of environmental benefits, it can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 12,489.08 MtCO2 between 2020 and 2055.
