Recent Advances in $W$-Band GaAs MMIC Radar Sensors for High-Precision Vital Sign Monitoring

This paper introduces the recent advancements in W-band radar sensor technology, including self-injection-locked (SIL) and super-regenerative oscillator (SRO) systems. Utilizing GaAs monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) technology, both architectures demonstrate notable capabilities in vital sign monitoring applications, highlighted by their high sensitivity and low power consumption. SIL radars feature low hardware complexity and considerable sensitivity, whereas SRO systems provide enhanced sensitivity and reduced power usage. Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of these W-band integrated radars, exhibiting the potential for accurate healthcare monitoring applications.
