Development of a Time Series Visualization Application for PM2.5 Level Changes Using Google Earth Engine

In recent years, Thailand has been facing severe air pollution problems that significantly impact public health. One of the most critical and hazardous pollutants is fine particulate matter (PM2.5), which consists of particles smaller than 2.5 microns. These particles can penetrate the body through the respiratory and circulatory systems, leading to various health issues. Several provinces in Thailand, particularly in the northern regions such as Chiang Mai, Lamphun, and Phitsanulok, are severely affected by this problem. The primary cause is the burning of agricultural fields and forests, which generates a substantial amount of smoke. Additionally, Bangkok and its surrounding areas experience high levels of PM2.5 due to heavy traffic and construction activities. Addressing the PM2.5 problem in Thailand requires collaborative efforts between the government, private sector, and the public. This research focuses on developing an application that visualizes time series data to analyze changes in PM2.5 levels, leveraging Google Earth Engine-a platform that facilitates the processing of large-scale geospatial data. The developed application enables users to efficiently monitor and analyze PM2.5 level changes through interactive graphs and map visualizations. The research utilizes data from Sentinel-2 satellites and air quality monitoring stations to process and analyze PM2.5 data over various time periods. This data is presented in a time series format through the application developed using Google Earth Engine tools and technologies. The goal of this research is to assist local administrators and relevant stakeholders in making informed decisions and planning effective air quality management strategies. Moreover, the developed application can be adapted for use in other regions, supporting air quality management and related research in the future.
