Research on detection limits of UAV-based oceanic lidar
Ocean topography has become a very important aspect of ocean exploration. For now, much of the current focus is on seafloor mapping. The detection of obstacle in the water column hasn’t got much attention yet. in this study we introduced a new UAV-based linear scanning oceanic lidar and studied its detection limits by semi-analytic Monte Carlo method. The cylinder is picked as the obstacle geometry model. After changing the relative positions of the laser incident and obstacle we also study the max scanning line resolution and max point resolution and the corresponding max speeds of drone. The parameter setting of showing the best performance of the lidar system is deeply discussed which provides a good reference for the development of lidar of underwater detection.
