Vibration amplitude enhanced quartz tuning fork photoacoustic spectroscopy sensor

This study proposes a novel QEPAS sensor design, which incorporates an arc-shaped control structure on the prongs of the quartz tuning fork (QTF). The arc control structure optimizes the stress distribution across the prongs, effectively improving the QTF’s resonance frequency and vibration amplitude. Using finite element modelling (FEM), we analyzed the relationship between the distance from the arc centre to the base of the prong and the QTF’s vibration frequency and amplitude. The results show that the arc control structure significantly enhances the vibration amplitude, increasing the photoacoustic signal by approximately 1.38 times compared to the standard 32 kHz QTF. This design not only improves gas detection efficiency but also provides a promising solution for ultra-sensitive trace gas detection applications.
