Greek Mysteries and the Early Schelling
Greek Mysteries play a central role in Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling’s conception of philosophy during his early period. This emerges especially in his 1803 Lectures on the Method of Academic Study, a text that Schelling himself avows to show the unity of his entire philosophical program. He reads Plato in a tradition of philosophy that draws heavily on the Greek Mysteries. Intellectual intuition and the Absolute, two defining philosophical features of Schelling, emerge in this context.
