Reverse saturable absorption and optical limiting action of organic cocrystal pyrimidin-2-amine glutaric acid

By employing a slow evaporation process, an organic cocrystal of pyrimidin-2-amine with propane-1,3-dicarboxylic (glutaric) acid was grown, utilizing a mixture of chloroform and methanol as the solvent. The crystallographic studies of the cocrystal have been performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD). Further vibrational, linear-optical, and thermal studies of the co-crystal have also been carried out and discussed. The XRD analysis revealed the crystallographic details, enabling the identification of specific planes associated with observed diffraction peaks. Meanwhile, the vibrational spectrum was meticulously examined, allowing for the assignment of bands to various functional groups within the cocrystal structure. The determination of the co-crystal’s melting point was achieved through thermal studies. Furthermore, a deeper understanding of light-matter interactions and the band structure of the cocrystal was gained. The cocrystal was investigated for third-order nonlinear optical properties using open aperture [Formula: see text]-scan measurement. The experiment was done using [Formula: see text]-switched Nd:YAG laser (532[Formula: see text]nm, 9[Formula: see text]ns, 10[Formula: see text]Hz) at intensity [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]W/m 2 , and was found to exhibit reverse saturable absorption (RSA) at the given intensity and hence has optical limiting characteristics. A lower optical limiting threshold observed in the present case guarantees that cocrystals are suitable optical limiters for pulsed green laser goggles.
