Comparison of The Effectiveness of Salam And Papaya Leaf Test on Mortality of Mosquito Larvas Culex Sp. Causes of Filariasis

Filariasis is still one of the endemic diseases in Indonesia. This indicates that the control of the filariasis transmitting vector, namely the Culex sp mosquito, is still not optimal. One way to control mosquito vector populations is to use larvicides. Larvicides that are widely used today are still in the form of synthetic larvicides, which can cause environmental pollution and cause resistance. Therefore, natural larvicides are needed that are environmentally friendly and certainly do not cause resistance effects. Plants can be an alternative source of natural larvicides. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of bay leaf and papaya leaf juice in killing Culex sp larvae and the LC50 and LC90 values after 24 hours of observation. This research is an experimental research conducted at the Microbiology laboratory of FIK UM Surabaya. The concentrations of bay leaf and papaya leaf juice used were 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% with three replications. From the results of the study, it was found that the percentage of Culex sp larvae mortality was 22.67% (p 20%); 37.33% (p 40%); 60% (p 60%); 82.67% (p 80%); 94.67% (p 100%). While the papaya leaf juice was 34.40% (p 20%); 53.20% (p 40%); 69.20% (p 60%); 86.40% (p 80%); 100% (p 100%). It can be concluded that the juice of bay leaves and papaya leaves is less effective in killing Culex sp larvae because it takes a concentration of 60% of bay leaves and 40% of papaya leaf juice to cause more than 50% and it takes a concentration of 100% of bay leaves and papaya leaves. to be able to cause above 90%. So that based on the comparison test of effectiveness, it turns out that papaya leaf juice is more effective in causing death in Culex sp larvae than bay leaf juice.
