Consecutive Cases of Muscular Ventricular Septal Rupture Following Anterior Myocardial Infarction: A Rare Clinical Scenario in Two Patients on the Same Day

ABSTRACT Ventricular septal rupture (VSR) is a rare but fatal complication following myocardial infarction, associated with high mortality even when treated. We present two consecutive cases of muscular VSR following anterior myocardial infarction in two patients on the same day. Both patients developed cardiogenic shock, and despite interventions including percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), surgical repair, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), they ultimately succumbed to their condition. These cases highlight the poor prognosis of VSR and emphasize the need for early recognition, rapid intervention, and continued research into improving outcomes for affected patients.
