A Modified FOC Strategy for 3‐Phase and 2‐Phase IMs Using Modified Double PI Controllers

ABSTRACT In literature, different field‐oriented control (FOC) schemes have been proposed to improve the performance of 3‐phase induction motor (IM) drives and 3‐phase IM drives under an open‐phase (O‐P) fault (asymmetrical 2‐phase IM drives). However, these schemes have different structures due to different models. In this paper, a novel and accurate FOC is proposed for 3‐phase IMs and 3‐phase IMs under an O‐P fault to improve the performance of these motor drives. The proposed FOC approach is a modification of the conventional FOC (CFOC) method, where modified double proportional‐integral (MDPI) controllers are used. The modified FOC (MFOC) in this paper is easy to implement in hardware and need no extra memory. Toward representing the strengths of the proposed MFOC, different experiments are carried out via DSP/TMS320F28335 controller. The experimental results illustrate the good performance of the MFOC technique for 3‐phase and 2‐phase IM drives.
