Promotion of Electrochemically Synthesized Copper Mesh Catalysts by Cobalt for Enhanced CO Oxidation

Metallic materials, such as fibers, foams, and meshes, are increasingly recognized as superior substrates for structured catalyst fabrication due to their exceptional thermal conductivity and mechanical properties. However, achieving a controlled and stable loading of active components and promoters onto metallic substrates remains a significant challenge. In this study, we developed a Co-doped Cu mesh-based catalyst through a facile electrochemical method, which enables the firm adhesion of active species to the Cu mesh surface without requiring additional pretreatments or adhesives. The prepared catalyst shows a T50 of 85 °C and approximately a 60% enhancement in CO oxidation activity compared to the Co-free Cu mesh-based catalyst. Characterization reveals that Co incorporates into the CuO lattice, facilitating the formation of oxygen vacancies and enhancing the catalyst’s redox properties as well as its CO adsorption capacity. These findings provide valuable insights into the design and fabrication of high-performance metal-structured catalysts.
