AUTHOR, LINGUISTIC PERSONALITY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

In the modern digital age, the wide scientific perspectives for stylistics are revealed due to the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a new type of author. The study analyses the concepts of author’s image introduced by V.V. Vinogradov and of linguistic personality introduced by Yu. N. Karaulov, which receive a new interpretation in connection with the technological revolution in language caused by the introduction of artificial intelligence into communication. The hypothesis is put forward that the concepts of discursive linguistic personality, discursive-informational linguistic personality, network personality existing in the scientific field are the varieties of Yu.N. Karaulov’s linguistic personality, and the terminological discrepancy arising is explained by the description of linguistic personalities in different types of discourses (sports, media, network, etc.). It is postulated that the categories of the author’s image and linguistic personality, which constitute the conceptual basis of Russian stylistics, in the new digital era are united in the humanistic concept of authorship, which is opposed by the technological concept. Based on the analysis of the existing scientific literature and our own experiments on creating texts with the help of AI, we conclude that two types of authors are actively represented and ‘work’ in the modern communicative space — humanitarian (human author) and technological (artificial intelligence as an author). Humanitarian and technological linguistic personalities form three types of linguistic space — humanitarian, technological and diffuse (humanitarian-technological). Preliminarily, it can be stated that the emergence of artificial intelligence opens new cognitive possibilities for stylistics, and artificial intelligence itself becomes not only a technological and civilisational phenomenon, but also a stylistic one. This situation opens new perspectives for stylistics in the study of the problem of authorship and poses new ethical, axiological and philosophical challenges, dealing with which gives stylistics the status of an integrative transdisciplinary science. Civilisational breakdown, inspired by artificial intelligence, can be considered as a new ‘axial time’, the features of which are most clearly seen through the prism of stylistics.
