Assessing the Socio-Economic Impacts of Climate Change on Vulnerable Communities in Baltimore: A CLASIC Tool Analysis
Climate change poses significant risks to vulnerable populations in Baltimore City, exacerbating social and economic inequalities. This study uses the CLASIC tool to comprehensively analyze the socio-economic impacts of climate change on these at-risk communities. By examining data on climate-induced stressors such as increased flooding and heatwaves, the research assesses how these factors disproportionately affect different socio-economic groups. The analysis focuses on economic vulnerability, health risks, and access to essential resources, providing a detailed understanding of how climate change exacerbates existing disparities. Findings highlight the heightened risk exposure faced by marginalized communities, particularly those living in older or inadequately maintained housing with limited access to climate adaptation resources. The study also evaluates the effectiveness of current adaptation measures and offers recommendations for targeted interventions to enhance resilience and equity. The research underscores the need for inclusive climate adaptation strategies by integrating socio-economic data with climate impact assessments.
