Robust parameter design for EDM-based AL2024-T3 machining
Abstract Al2024-T3 is one of the currently used materials in the aerospace and defense industries owing to its easy machinability, high weldability, fatigue resistance, and strength/weight ratio. Although easy machinability has led to the preference for conventional machining methods for aluminum materials, nontraditional manufacturing methods are widely used today due to their low tolerance and ability to be processed in micro dimensions. In addition, Al2024-T3 materials are preferred to be formed using nontraditional machining methods due to the demand for sustainable and green production. This paper proposes a robust parameter optimization study of Al2024-T3 for EDM using a goal programming model. As a result of the study, optimal parameter values were obtained for the T on values varying between 20.499 and 35.732 when the I p and T off have constant values of 9.00 and 10.00, respectively, to reach the target values of MRR, TWR, R a , and R dev .
