Research on Teaching Strategies for Graduate Theoretical Physics Courses—A Case Study of “Advanced Quantum Mechanics” Course
To address the issues of “disconnection between learning and application” and “low engagement” in postgraduate theoretical physics courses, this study takes the Advanced Quantum Mechanics course as an example and proposes a “research demand-oriented, problem-driven, and diverse evaluation” trinity teaching model based on constructivist learning theory. By analyzing classroom behavior data and academic performance from two cohorts, the study found that in traditional teaching: 60% of students perceived a disconnection between course content and scientific research, 45% felt intimidated due to weak mathematical foundations, and classroom interaction frequency was less than 1 time per class hour. After implementing reforms—including modular curriculum design (fundamental theory + cutting-edge case studies), flipped classroom and task-driven teaching, and process-oriented assessment (15% classroom contribution + 15% academic presentations)—the cohort demonstrated significant improvements: attendance rate increased from 85% to 100%, the excellent assignment rate rose from 26% to 45%, and classroom interaction frequency reached 2 times per class. The results indicate that a research-oriented teaching model effectively promotes deep learning. However, future efforts should focus on optimizing task difficulty gradients and providing more targeted personalized support to refine this pedagogical approach.
