The pedagogical essence of mutual understanding is revealed as a situation of defining the jointness and reciprocity of achieving goals, and the coordination of motives and actions. The resources of the axiological approach in the formation of mutual understanding are defined, and the grounds for recognizing mutual understanding as a value are shown. It is proven that the application of the axiological approach makes it possible to create conditions for dialogue, respect, and support, which are necessary for the successful mutual understanding of students from different cultures.
