Ecosystem disservices in urbanized areas – an economic and social perspective

The purpose of the article is to classify ecosystem disservices according to their impact on the quality of life. The research consisted of the following steps: (i) review of the literature on ecosystem disservices, (ii) preparation of a survey questionnaire on the perception of ecosystem disservices in the local environment, (iii) conducting survey interviews using the CAWI technique among adult residents of Poland in July-September 2023, (iv) statistical analysis using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The results indicate a complex approach to ecosystem disservices. Differences are revealed for characteristics such as age, education and place of residence (urban/rural areas). A limitation for a comprehensive analysis of the problem is the relatively small number of publications addressing the topic of ecosystem disservices. As a result, the article focuses mainly on Polish socio-environmental conditions. The article can be useful for a wide range of stakeholders (local authorities, spatial planners and local communities).
