Hepatotoxicity and cardiotoxicity of azithromycin: a “mythologeme” or real threat (critical review)

As shown by long experience of the clinical use of macrolides, these drugs are characterized by the highest safety. Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with the use of macrolides are extremely rare. Azithromycin remains one of the most prescribed antibiotics, especially in outpatient practice. The review presents critical analysis of the available data on possible ADRs to the antibiotic related to the liver and cardiovascular system.
