A Quasi-Static Load Distribution Model for Deep Groove Ball Bearings

Abstract A generalized quasi-static deep groove ball bearing load distribution model that is capable of accounting for microgeometry deviations whilst maintaining the computational efficiency necessary for a design tool is proposed. In addition to contact nonlinearity, geometric nonlinearity due to load dependence is captured effectively using an iterative algorithm. The model is verified with an advanced commercial multi-body finite element formulation for a nominal as well as modified geometry. An indirect validation study compares contact pressure measurements between the outer race–housing interface and a conformal contact extension to the proposed load distribution formulation.
