A High Speed Half-Bridge Gate Driver Circuit Design Using Discrete Electronic Components

This paper details the design, simulation, and validation of a high-frequency half-bridge gate driver circuit, based on a bootstrap circuit, using readily available components. Capable of switching frequencies up to 200 kHz, the gate driver features programmable dead time and a shutdown input to enhance modularity and practicality. Its real-life applicability was demonstrated through hardware testing with a synchronous buck converter, proving its effectiveness in practical applications.

Abstract

This paper details the design, simulation, and validation of a high-frequency half-bridge gate driver circuit, based on a bootstrap circuit, using readily available components. Capable of switching frequencies up to 200 kHz, the gate driver features programmable dead time and a shutdown input to enhance modularity and practicality. Its real-life applicability was demonstrated through hardware testing with a synchronous buck converter, proving its effectiveness in practical applications.
