Analysis of Transient and Steady State Behaviour of Fault Response with Different Grounding Strategies in Zonal DC Microgrid
DC microgrids incorporating renewable energy generation and loads are widely discussed, yet they still harbor unresolved safety concerns from a microgrid standpoint. A comprehensive understanding of various grounding strategies is vital for effectively operating and safeguarding the grid. DC microgrid exhibits many more complications in the implementation of the grounding configuration than AC. Therefore, this paper explores and compares the distinct characteristics of the utilized grounding configurations and their specific impacts, particularly focusing on the protection aspects of the DC microgrid which is tested with the MATLAB Simulink by creating a 380V zonal DC microgrid including battery energy storage system (BESS), PV system and different loads. The effects of the different grounding strategies on the DC side of the system are encompassed in the study, with the behavior of all configurations being evaluated in normal working mode and under DC line-to-ground fault conditions, thereby highlighting the LG fault response for different scenarios by analyzing transient and steady-state behavior.
