Impact Assessment of Distributed Storage in Active Distribution Networks using Current Sensitivity-based OPF
Integration of distributed storage (DS) offers a significant potential for managing the variability and unpredictability of renewable energy sources (RES) in active distribution networks (ADNs). In this regard, this paper explores the dynamic capabilities of DS by leveraging current sensitivity (CS)-based OPF on radial and weakly meshed ADNs. This work employs a network sensitivity-based OPF for effective integration and management of DS. Results demonstrate that DS integration improves voltage profiles and enhances load balancing. In weakly meshed ADNs, economic benefits are observed through cost savings from decreased energy losses and nodal distribution locational marginal prices (DLMPs). This highlights the critical role of DS in optimizing power flows, offering valuable insights for the distribution network operator (DNO) to enhance ADN techno-economic viability.
