Integration of Solar PV Battery Storage System with Cascaded H-Bridge Multi-Level Inverters for Enhanced Grid Performance
This paper proposes a grid-connected solar PV system employing a multi-level inverter in a double-stage configuration. The topology consists of two symmetrical cascaded H bridges connected to two solar PV arrays interfaced with the battery energy storage system (BESS). Optimum Power of solar PV arrays is tracked using perturb & observe (P&O) method and power flow from the inverter to grid is attained by implementing the d-q and phase lock loop (PLL) synchronization control scheme. Due to the features of MLI, the output voltage obtained has lower values of harmonic distortion, with lower switching frequency operation, need of bulky filter requirement is reduced and minimum switching losses is achieved resulting in an overall increase in system efficiency. The design, control and simulation results have been validated to verify the effective performance of the proposed system in dynamic and steady state operation using MATLAB/Simulink software.
