Common-Mode Noise Modelling and Analysis of a High-gain Quadratic Boost DC-DC Converter

The Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of Power converters has gained huge attention with the increase in utilization of high-frequency switching converters. High-frequency switching of the device causes high dv/dt, leading to the formation of parasitic capacitances between the switching node and the ground, which in turn introduces common-mode current. The PCB track inductances and resistances of the converter also cause resonant peaks in the noise spectrum and need to be evaluated for prediction of the conducted EMI spectrum of a converter. This paper analyzes the common-mode noise of a high-gain quadratic converter by developing the Common-Mode equivalent circuit and studying the effect of the individual noise sources. The parasitic parameters of the converter’s PCB are derived using ANSYS Q3D while the EMI simulation is conducted in PSIM.
