Advanced Fault Identification, Classification, and Localization Technique for Enhanced Protection in DC Zonal Microgrids

This paper presents an efficient protection technique in DC zonal microgrids. Localization of faults in DC microgrids presents significant challenges because of the DC network’s inherent low-impedance properties. The proposed method operates by utilizing the current, voltage, and line parameters under fault conditions. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated on a 600 V DC zonal microgrid in the MATLAB (Simulink) software, successfully identifying both pole-to-pole and pole-to-ground fault types across a broad range of fault resistances and locations. The simulation outcomes validate the efficacy of the suggested method in accurately identifying, classifying, and localization of faults under varying fault scenarios.
