PI Control Design Using Padula and Visioli Method for Renewable Integrated Microgrid

The frequency control in islanded microgrids is one of the major challenges due to the interconnection of stochastic renewable sources. This work aims to enhance grid stability and reliability while maximizing renewable energy utilization. This presented work considered a renewable source-enabled islanded microgrid. Further, the mathematical model derived is of seventh order. Then, it is approximated as first-order plus time delay (FOPDT) form using reaction curve method. The suitable proportional-integral (PI) control design for proposed FOPDT model is presented to resolve load frequency issues. To achieve this, PI controller is tuned using the Padula and Visioli tuning approach. The analysis of presented control design approach is done by presenting the step responses and frequency deviation curve analysis for FOPDT modeled islanded microgrid. The detailed description of data of time domain analysis of microgrid model and approximated model under with and without controller are analyzed. The findings indicate that this research holds significant implications for control design for operation of resilient and sustainable microgrid systems.
