Self-Healing Schemes in Modern Advanced Power Distribution Networks: An Overview
The load demand for electrical power has been increasing, continuously, and it may lead to many challenges in providing a secure, stable, and sustained power supply to end users or power consumers. Additionally, this rapid increase in power demand may cause frequent occurrence of interruptions in electricity supply to the end users, which necessitates a systematic approach to mitigate the negative impacts caused by these interruptions. Self-healing and its management techniques provide remedies for such occurrences. This paper presents an overview of self-healing techniques and their management in modern advanced power distribution networks. Furthermore, it also discusses self-healing concepts, current control schemes, solution approaches, and their goals. Moreover, the future research directions that need to be implemented in modern advanced power distribution networks are also described.
