Mixed Integer GAO Based Fuzzy Dynamic Braking For Transient Stability Enhancement

Braking resistors play a crucial role in dissipating excess energy during disturbances, preventing instabilities in the synchronous machines. This paper presents robust approach that integrates a braking resistor with an advanced fuzzy logic controller with genetic algorithm optimisation (GAO). To enhance the functionality of braking resistor, a fuzzy logic controller is employed. However, design of fuzzy controller is trial-and-error based, which can be time-consuming and tedious. To overcome this and further refine the controller’s performance, genetic algorithm is integrated to optimize the tuning of membership functions and control rules. By exploring the solution space, the algorithm ensures optimal performance of the fuzzy controller. The proposed system is simulated in MATLAB, with results highlighting the effectiveness of the controller and substantial improvements in stability.
