A Reactive Power Control Method for the PCC of Wind Farm with System-Side Participation
In large-scale wind power aggregation areas, the significant variations in wind speed often result in the reactive power regulation equipment within wind farms reaching their operational limits prematurely during daily operations, causing substantial voltage fluctuations at the point of common coupling (PCC). To address this issue, nearby substations must provide reactive power support to the wind farm’s PCC. However, due to the complexity of the power grid, the reactive power support from substations cannot fully flow to the wind farm. To this end, this paper introduces a reactive power support control method, including the theoretical analysis for the shunt of reactive power flow based on the shunt ratio and an optimal selection method for substations participating in voltage regulation, as well as an optimization model to determine the reactive power allocation for each compensating substation. The proposed method is validated on the IEEE 39-bus system, and the results show that the compensating substations successfully achieved the desired control effect for the wind farms’ PCC.
