Optimizing DER Hosting Capacity and Power Loss Minimization in Distribution System with GWO
The Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are being integrated into the distribution system to utilize the renewable sources of energy and reducing carbon emissions. However, with increase in penetration of DERs, certain negative impacts are visible on distribution systems. The Hosting Capacity (HC) assessment facilitates the DER interconnection while ensuring compliance with operational limits. In this paper, an optimization-based approach is proposed to determine the locational HC of DERs such that the total active power losses in the system are reduced. The Gray Wolf Optimizer (GWO) is used for optimization. The proposed method is applied on IEEE 33-bus system. A Voltage Stability Index (VSI) based approach is also proposed to determine the feasibility of the solutions obtained for voltage stability. The suggested method offers appropriate locations for DER integration, resulting in optimal HC capacity with minimized losses. Furthermore, voltage stability is preserved under various loading scenarios.
