Eight Switch Converter: A Novel Alternative for Combined Three Phase and Single Phase Loads
This paper proposes an eight-switch converter for simultaneous balanced three-phase and single-phase outputs/inputs that is derived from the nine-switch converter with the goal of reducing costs. Depending on the phase difference between its two terminal sets, the nine-switch converter's maximum achievable amplitude at its outputs is subject to certain limitations. Nonetheless, it is demonstrated that the nine-switch converter favorably improves the system's overall power quality with a well-designed control structure, supporting its use as a power converter at a lower semiconductor cost. In addition to having fewer switches than a traditional back-to-back converter (eight instead of twelve), the eight-switch converter has good interfacing and integration capabilities for renewable energy sources and can improve voltage and frequency regulation of the suggested system. The entire system of eight switch converter has been modelled and simulated using Matlab/Simulink, the necessary control algorithm for the proposed converter configuration has been discussed in details and the proposed system is verified using OPAL RT 4510 real time simulator.
