Impedance Matching Method for Fault Location Identification on Three Terminal Transmission Line

This paper presents an application of new impedance matching based fault location identification method on three terminal transmission network. The voltage and current phasors from the three terminals of the transmission network are considered for calculating fault location on the transmission line. Initially the section on which fault occurs on the three terminal transmission line is identified and then the accurate fault location is identified. The proposed method is independent of transmission line parameters. The proposed method is tested for different faults on different sections of the transmission network and the efficiency is also tested for various source impedances and fault resistances. Further the tentative value of the fault resistance can also be obtained with the proposed method. A three terminal transmission network is considered for simulation studies which is modelled in PSCAD® software and the algorithm is implemented in MATLAB®.
