Coordinated Energy Management for Multi-Island Microgrids and Hybrid Electric Ships Considering Carbon Emission

The significant environmental impact of maritime transportation has driven increased interest in adopting electricity as a cleaner and more sustainable energy source for the sector. In this paper, we propose a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model to optimize energy management of multi-islands microgrids with hybrid electric ships (HES), in which the coupling between electric power system and maritime transportation system is utilized to reduce the operational costs and carbon emissions. In this electric-maritime coupling integrated energy system (EMC-IES), HES can act as a bridge for energy transfer between islands by charging/discharging with microgrids, thus facilitating the integration of renewable energy. The case studies demonstrate that the proposed coordinated energy management framework effectively reduces operation costs, lowers carbon emissions of EMC-IES.
