Wildfire Detection and Localization in Power Transmission Corridors using the DETR Algorithm: A Critical Component for the Energy Internet
Wildfires near power transmission lines pose serious threats to energy infrastructure and can disrupt energy distribution. In the context of the energy internet, where real-time monitoring is essential, timely wildfire detection is critical. However, traditional detection methods face challenges such as environmental noise and the difficulty of identifying small-scale fires. In this context, this paper proposes using the DEtection TRansformer (DETR) algorithm for wildfire detection and localization around transmission lines, which leverages the powerful Transformer architecture for object detection. DETR's end-to-end design simplifies the process, offering enhanced accuracy by utilizing global context understanding. Experimental results on real-world wildfire datasets demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms traditional CNN-based methods in terms of detection accuracy.
