Design and Development of Compact and Robust SiC MOSFET Based Converter for EV Application
The electrification of transport sector brings the revolution in the field of converter design for battery charging and traction. The key performance indicators for converters like high power density, efficiency, lower cost, compact in size etc. are considered during the designing of converter. The Wide Bandgap (WBG) devices like SiC and GaN helps to achieve efficient and high power density in the field of converter design. And also, they operates at a very high frequency. The voltage and current rating of WBG are high in comparison to conventional Si switches. This paper presents unique design methodology of a 3kW SiC MOSFET based three-phase converter suitable for AC-DC, DC-AC power conversion and electric vehicle (EV) applications. This paper presents the designed sensors for DC-link voltage, AC voltage and current, which makes the converter suitable for any close loop operation, PFC or DC-AC power conversion. This paper explains the design steps and selection of parameters for SiC MOSFET based converter. The Simulation and hardware results are presented to validate the design of converter.
