Analysis of Sub-synchronous Oscillation of Wind Farm with MMC-HVDC System

Due to the interaction between the modular multilevel converter (MMC) station and wind farms, various oscillations occur in the offshore wind farm with the modular multilevel converter-based high-voltage direct current (MMC-HVDC). In contrast to two-level converters, the nonlinear dynamics of the arm capacitance and the circulating currents result in the inherent time-periodic characteristic of MMC. Based on the linear time-periodic (LTP) method, this paper presents a small-signal model that preserves the original time-varying dynamics. Then, the effect of generation power, controllers, and their interaction on the sub-synchronous oscillations (SSO) of the system is investigated. Finally, the time-domain responses of the detailed nonlinear model are used to validate the accuracy of the analysis.
