Optimal Sizing for Energy Storage Systems in Hybrid Models Using a Novel Algorithmic Approach
Opting renewable for the energy needs is a promising solution to mitigate climate change. Though weather driven renewables like wind and solar are highly potent to satisfy the global energy demand, their intermittent nature makes them unreliable to rely on them as standalone solutions, utilizing their complementary nature and storing excess energy in energy storage systems (ESS) allows renewable to compete with conventional generation systems. The major challenges of integrating renewable with ESS include the need for a robust control infrastructure to manage energy flow, high costs, and potential hazards without a proper management system. This paper proposes a novel strategy with an optimized battery size selection and a control algorithm to operate the hybrid renewable system more efficiently and cost-effectively.
