Non-Communication Based Coordinated Control Approach to Improve Commutation Failure Recovery of Hybrid Multi-Infeed HVDC System
A novel non-communication coordinated control approach is proposed. It utilizes the MMC-HVDC system to monitor variations in phase angle, enabling the identification of commutation failure (CF). In response, the system shifts from constant power control to an AC voltage control mode that actively provides reactive power support. This enhanced reactive power support alleviates continuous commutation failure in line-commutated converters (LCC). Case studies conducted using PSCAD/EMTDC demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and its ability to enhance performance during fault and recovery periods.
