Study on the Synergistic Operation of Pumped Storage and Electrochemical Energy Storage under High Percentage New Energy Power System
The amount of renewable energy included into the power system has increased significantly in light of the "dual-carbon" targets, and the inherent stochasticity and intermittency of renewable energy outputs have posed significant issues pertaining to power system stability and security. This necessitates the integration and coordination of various energy storage technologies to enhance the system’s flexibility in scheduling and regulation. This paper presents a day-ahead and intra-day rolling optimal dispatch strategy that incorporates the coordinated participation of pumped storage and electrochemical energy storage. It quantitatively evaluates the system support capabilities and economic benefits of their coordinated operation across four key dimensions: smoothing renewable energy output fluctuations, promoting renewable energy absorption, improving generation reliability, and reducing the burden of system peak shaving. Utilizing data from the Xinjiang provincial power grid, a case study is carried out to evaluate the support capacities of various energy storage coordination solutions within each dimension, confirming the benefits and efficacy of the suggested methodology.
