Artificial Intelligence in Smart Grids: A Comprehensive Bibliometric Analysis

The research field of artificial intelligence applications for smart grids has been a rapidly growing hotspot over the past 20 years. This paper conducts a bibliometric analysis of research trends and hotspots in this field based on 12,282 related publications from the Web of Science Core Collection published from 2004 to 2024. First, publication trends and major funding agencies are identified. Then, using CiteSpace software, collaboration network analysis among countries, institutions, and authors is performed to identify active research entities; keywords co-occurrence analysis and literature co-citation analysis are conducted; and scientific knowledge mappings are drawn. Based on the burst analysis, emerging references are presented to indicate future trends in the field. These results can guide researchers studying the fundamental research and frontiers in this field.
