Storage Planning for High Penetration of Renewable Energy Sources Considering Battery Characteristics
The extensive application of energy storage batteries has raised concerns regarding their operational properties. It is crucial to consider not only the battery life measured by charge and discharge cycles but also the loss of capacity that occurs as they are used. To prevent situations where the actual operational capacity falls short of the intended capacity, this study integrates a storage capacity degradation model into operational simulations to investigate the impact of storage capacity degradation in practical operational scenarios. Initially, this paper introduces the full equivalent cycles (FEC) model for characterizing energy storage capacity degradation, subsequently integrating it into a conventional operational simulation model. Based on a specific municipal-level power grid, the study analyzes the impact of storage capacity degradation on the decision-making of the operational simulation model. The operational simulation method, which includes energy storage life constraints, is shown to be adaptable to different operational demands and supports the comprehensive management of energy storage systems.
