Exploring Security Communication Tactics for Intelligent Substations Grounded on Edge Computing

To address the challenge of simultaneously achieving high-quality security and low-latency response in smart substation communication services, this paper proposes a security communication strategy based on edge computing. Firstly, a security protection mechanism meeting the communication service security requirements is formulated based on the national cryptographic system. Secondly, a real-time acceleration strategy for the security protection mechanism based on edge computing is proposed, which provides shared proxy computing services for resource-constrained terminal devices through the deployment of edge servers. Finally, taking various operating states of the D2-1 type substation's unified star network as an example, quantitative calculations and OPNET simulations are conducted to evaluate the latency of the proposed strategy. The results demonstrate that while meeting the security requirements of smart substation communication services, this communication strategy effectively improves the real-time response speed of communication services.
